Shooting at Grove and Baker on 8/14

As many residents know, there was a fatal shooting on Monday afternoon at the intersection of Grove & Baker in the North Panhandle. This is the second shooting in our neighborhood the past 18 months. The first was at the corner of Lyon & Golden Gate and happened at night.

News Coverage Update - Aug. 16: The Chronicle has a story on the shooting this morning.

Details about this case are slowly coming out - the boy who died was named Aubrey Abrakasa and was a good kid who lived nearby Pacific Primary on Grove Street. Police have obtained video from a surveillance camera on a nearby nursing home and hope that will offer some clues in the case. So far, no witnesses have come forward to identify the assailants, as far as we know.

This occurred directly in front of Pacific Primary Preschool. Luckily no one there was hurt.

NOPNA is in touch with many neighbors, Sup. Mirkarimi's office, and the police department. We will post more information here as we receive it. In the meantime, the Park Precinct is hosting a "Captain's Walk" on Divisadero this Thursday at 10am. The walk will start at Divisadero and Haight streets, and will be a good opportunity to talk to the police and Mirkarimi. We encourage our neighbors to come out.

Update from Capt. Jimenez of Park Precinct re: Captain's walk on 8/17-
Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 10 A.M., Lt. Tim Foley and I will conduct a Captain's Walk on Divisadero Street between Haight and McAllister Streets. We intend to address many issues concerning the Merchants and residents along this corridor. We will be bringing out our beat Officers and the Department of Public Works. Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi has expressed his intent to be there to hear the concerns of those attending. The Mayor's Office and the District Attorney's Office are also sending representatives to answer any questions the community may have. We have contacted many of the diverse members that live, work and frequent this area and they have agreed to meet at around 11:00 A.M. (when the walk is over) at Ziryab restaurant located at 528 Divisadero Street. Come listen, vent, complain or offer a solution. It should if anything be quite interesting.
