Today's fire at Central & McAllister

Central fire
For those that weren't home around 5pm tonight to see the enormous fire at Central & McAllister, I got a photo to share with the blog.

The fire more or less destroyed three buildings and hit a couple of others on both McAllister and Central. I left my house after I heard the twentieth fire truck go by, and finally noticed the huge plume of smoke.

This is such a bummer. Hopefully nobody was injured, that everyone's pets got out alright, and that folks have some insurance...

Luckily no one was hurt. Anyone interested in helping the folks displaced by this fire should get in touch with Leela Gill, NOPNA president, or Larry Griffith, NOPNA board member. They are in touch with many of the residents and trying to coordinate help.

I heard at the NOPNA meeting on Thursday night that some local restaurants and cafes have brought food and beverage by for the folks who are there trying to move their belongings and whatnot. It was certainly appreciated.

Advice to the uninsured - get some renters insurance! It's really not so expensive. We signed up for it after a friend had a similar experience and it was less than $300 a year.
