Water Board Meeting May 10 9am

Dear San Francisco Resident:

HELP STOP SAN FRANCISCO BAY POLLUTION! LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD AT THE WATER BOARD'S MAY 10 HEARING!

The City and County of San Francisco is joining with a number of community groups to oppose the Regional Water Quality Control Board's proposed permit for Mirant Corporation's Potrero Power Plant Unit 3. As the attached Board of Supervisors Resolution states, the proposed permit does not meet minimum standards for protecting San Francisco Bay nor require mitigation measures to reduce pollution.

The attached Action Alert from Communities for a Better Environment describes the "Community Permit," which the Supervisors' resolution supports. The proposed "Community Permit" asks for a dry cooling alternative that would eliminate the plant's harmful uptake from and discharge to the Bay. SFPUC staff worked with community representatives to develop this "Community Permit," which provides Mirant with a reasonable schedule for removing its discharge from the Bay. Your help is needed to convince the Regional Water Quality Control Board to reject the proposed permit and to direct their staff to develop a permit that meets current cooling system requirements.

ATTEND THE WATER BOARD'S MEETING AND LEND YOUR VOICE TO STOP THIS PERMIT TO POLLUTE!

WHERE: First Floor Auditorium, 1515 Clay Street, Oakland (near 12th Street BART Station)
WHEN: Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 9:00 a.m.
