Restaurant news - Papalote & NOPA

Word on the street is that the new Papalote just opened in the old Tango 20 location on Fulton Street. Open 11a-10p, serving up multi-mustache slabs.

My neighbors got a sneak peak of the NOPA interior and found a mural artist working on a big piece about the neighborhood on one wall. Sounds like the owners want to show off the history of their new 'hood.

Know any good cooks? They're hiring...

Had a burrito (Chile Verde) there last night. It was ok, but the Mexican restaurant across from Cha Cha Cha is still the best in the area for size, ingredients and quality. The Papalote burrito was too loose and fell apart. The chips seemed to be from a grocery store shelf and the salsa was just decent. The prices were on the mark however. They need some more signage inside as well as a posted menu on the wall. The workers seemed a bit confused but that will probably even out with time. Next visit will be for one of their platters. The platters are about a dollar or two more than they should be I think - but I'll see how they taste.

I can't wait for NOPA. I got a gift certificate from a local school event last week. So if they close without opening, I guess i'm screwed.

stopped in last night for a carne asada burrito - fantastic. And the salsa I got was also excellent, deep red and smokey.
