The restaurant formerly known as Tango20
... is now sporting an ABC license notice from Papalote, a "hipster" mission burrito establishment. Earned 8.7 moustaches on the BurritoEater website - sounds good to me (Note: Taco Loco on Divis earned 8.5 M...).

Well, Green Chile Kitchen has done a fantastic job of filling the void, but happy to see that we'll finally have a 'real' taqueria in our 'hood.
If you haven't tried GCK yet, you gotta get there. They're doing a great job!
Was Tango that place across the street from Albertsons?
I'm sure the hood can support two quality burrito joints, given the relative shortage of other options. It's too bad there isn't more of substance on that stretch of Fulton.
On a related note, has anyone seen the hilarious review of Cafe Daebul posted on Yelp?
"I've never been inside this dark, foreboding place with blacked-out windows, but I understand its a Korean whorehouse. So, just to be clear, the only reason I would know this is because somebody recently told me that they went in there with a bunch of friends one night out of curiousity. They ordered drinks and everything was fine, aside from the penetrating stares of the bartender. When they tried to order a second drink, however, the bartender stated abrasively, "second drink. Four hundred dollar. Back room!" Too bad its across the street from my house. HELLO!? GET A CLUE, WE'RE TRYING TO GENTRIFY HERE!!!"
AWESOME! I love Papalote. Absolutely my favorite burrito place in SF. Amazing salsa. I tried to support Tango20 since I really want to see that stretch of Fulton liven up, but they disappeared just as fast as they appeared. Too bad.
And what is the deal with Cafe Daebul... is that a real restaurant? I've never seen a light on, or anyone walk in/our of it. And that big blue building next to it... Fulton Place or something. What's up with that?
GREAT news about Tango 20 being replaced as there just isn't room for $10 burrito's with mostly non-burrito ingredients in this or any neighborhood!!
My wife spoke to an ex-employee there who said that the owner never owned a restaurant and didn't listen to anybody about putting real burritos on the board. Rookie mistake I guess!
Has anybody heard about what's going on with the big blue building (the old Fulton Street Bar)?
Here's another tidbit about Papalote - sounds like they're shooting for a March opening.
Great Cafe Daebul story...
Tys and Matt, what do you know about the Fulton Place building?
Tango 20 was across from Albertson's. I am looking forward to another burrito place but also should say I love the food at Green Chile Kitchen.
Love Green Chile Cafe....and their spicy green chile stew. Though some cowardly bloggers feel that it is too hot for their wimply taste buds. Having said that, i agree that the neighborhood is in DESPARATE need of a good, authentic Mexican taqueria.
as for Cafe Daebul -- i've heard these rumours for a long time but they have never been corroborated. maybe hubby and i will have to stroll in and check it out. ;)
About the Fulton Street Bar...
the building owner forced the bar owner out of there by increasing the rent outlandishly.
Then there was a guy who was going in there to put a full pizza restaurant and bar in, and he started renovating... and I think ran out of money and went away.
The last I heard the actual business owner told me he was going to to remodel the place and open a restaurant himself. That was at least two years ago when he told me that.
(I'm going to post this as a new entry, to see if other comments come up.)
Just cruising the BurritoEater blog and noticed that Tango20's score of 5.17 moustaches was the LOWEST score of any burrito in 2005. Ouch.
Also noticed that the old T20 signs are down and the Papalote 'coming soon' signs are up!
