Rumors about businesses in the 'hood

Here's some old news that I would like an update on--

A couple months ago the NOPNA board heard that Albertson's would be leaving the Fulton Market complex at the end of the year, to be replaced by Mollie Stone's... anyone know the currency of this information?

Noticed that Tango20! closed? I know at least one neighbor doesn't think it's temporary, and isn't shedding tears about the loss...

What is the Green Chili Kitchen business that's going in at Fulton & Baker? The interior looks nice, but their website is a bust...

Pacific Primary Preschool to buy Hicks Temple across the street?

Those in the know, please share your knowledge!

So much activity! I popped my head into Green Chile Cafe a few weeks ago and spoke to someone who seemed to be the owner. He said the grand opening would be mid November. Next week! I can believe it because counters and display cases were installed already, though construction continues on other parts of the building. I believe it's some kind of southwestern food with cafe service.

As for Albertson - yahooooo! I hate that overpriced/under serviced place. Mollie Stones is no cheaper but at least better quality and service. I don't know if it's true but I can believe it because I have never seen many customers in Albertsons. I was hoping for Trader Joes but oh well.

I definitely saw a "Sale Pending" sign on the Hicks Temple, but never saw a "For Sale" sign in the first place. This usually means an insider deal - e.g. a neighbor who knows it's going to be for sale before it is available to anyone else. Makes sense that the pre-school across the way could do that. The do nice trees and paint job which we could really use across the street.

VERY disappointed by Tango20 - I popped in there last week when the windows were all covered over. Someone was in there cleaning and said the owner was sick and the place would re-open soon.

I won't be upset if Tango 20 closes. It was the worst burrito I've had in 10 years, it took them 20 minutes to make it (a veggie burrito no less) with only 2 other customers ahead of me. And no free salsa? What's up with that? That placed is bogus.

So true about Tango - too upscale for what people really want... (and can get up at Haight Street) a cheap filling and good quality burrito with out the wait.

I'd be very glad if it WASN'T a Trader Joe's. I know it wouldn't be that much of an impact for those of us who can just walk there - but with EVERY Trader Joe's comes a horrid traffic nightmare. Just go by the loaction on Masonic near Geary to see what I mean. (or if you're in San Rafael, try out the one in Montecito Plaza - with almost no parking, plus the significant other[s] that do constant loops in the parking lot) And if you think too many take the illegal right out of the parking lot, with extra flow would be extra illegal left turners.

I'd much prefer something on the scale of Falletti's. (before it started going south) It had that neighborhood market (non-chain) feel and good quality. The couple of Mollie Stones are much the same way (and a little bit cheaper than Andronico's).

Won't quite miss Tango 20 - It had it's heart in the right place but it's serving sizes left people...wanting...a hell of a lot more.

Couldn't agree more on the trader joe's traffic nightmare. I've seen it at five diff locations in three diff cities.

I think mollie stone's will be a pretty significant price increase, but a smaller chain maybe more responsive to community requests on stocking. Albertson's is up for sale anyways and probably would be rebranded as something else soon.

I don't know what the 6 month stall on the Green Chili place was, but be great to have it. Hopefully they know their southwest cooking and will have both green and red chili and those real chili renos you can never find in Califas

Ok, first off, I love TJ's but they're seriously like 5 blocks away from Albertson's, so why would they put two stores so close?

Also, regarding Trader Joe's and traffic, the reason it is so bad is that they don't have nearly enough parking spots at any of their stores. If they did move to where albertson's is, they'd have that huge garage and thus no traffic issues.

And why are there so many Albertson's haters here? TJ's is great and all, but they don't have everything, and some things are more expensive at TJ's (fruit juice comes to mind).

Personally, I don't really like Mollie Stones. They are more expensive than Whole Paycheck, and they don't have much of a selection. Plus anyone who really wants to go there can take that free shuttle they have.

Just noticed that BurritoEater.com gave Tango20 a meager 5.17 rating (out of 10). It's ranked 4th to last out of 150 burrito joints in the city.
